WEEKLY STORYLINES

NO PITY IN PORTLAND: Brian White moved within two goal contributions of a historic milestone as Vancouver Whitecaps FC continued their perfect start to the 2026 MLS season with a convincing 4-1 win over Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers. White scored twice to reach 98 goal contributions for the club across all competitions (82 goals, 16 assists), leaving him two shy of becoming the first player in the club’s MLS era to reach 100. Tristan Blackmon and Sebastian Berhalter also scored in the victory, which marked the third straight match at Providence Park in which the ’Caps have scored four or more goals. White, Blackmon, Berhalter, along with head coach Jesper Sørensen, were all named to the MLS Team of the Matchday.

JESPER AT THE HELM: In his second season in charge, head coach Jesper Sørensen has continued to build on the club’s success from last year. Since the Dane took over, the Blue and White have scored 114 goals across all competitions, recorded 21 clean sheets, and posted a 30W-10L-18D record. Vancouver also remains unbeaten in MLS play when scoring first under Sørensen (20W-0L-4D). With seven of their next eight matches at BC Place, the ’Caps will look to continue their strong home form, as Sørensen has posted a 19W-3L-7D mark across all competitions at BC Place.

CASCADIA IN CONCACAF: The ’Caps enter a busy stretch with four matches in nine days, beginning with the First Leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 against Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC. The matchup also carries history in the competition, as Vancouver’s first Concacaf Champions League match came against Seattle in 2015, a 1-1 draw that saw defender Tim Parker score the club’s first goal in the tournament. The first leg will be played on Thursday at BC Place, with the return leg set for Wednesday, March 18 at ONE Spokane Stadium in Spokane, Washington. The winner of the two-legged series will advance to the quarterfinals to face either FC Cincinnati or Tigres UANL.
