VANCOUVER, BC – With nine matches remaining in the regular season, Vancouver Whitecaps FC (MLS 15W-6L-4D, 49 points) enter Matchday 28 action in MLS at the top of the Western Conference with a five point advantage and a game in hand over second-placed sides Houston Dynamo FC, St. Louis CITY SC, and FC Dallas. The Blue and White are also eight points back of Supporters' Shield leaders Nashville SC, with a game in hand.

The 'Caps will look to build on their lead at the top of the West when Eastern Conference side D.C. United (MLS 6W-8L-11D, 29 points) comes to town this Saturday, September 26. The 'Caps will be hosting BC Soccer's Youth & Family Match, presented by REMAX. Kickoff from BC Place is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT with public stadium gates opening at 6:30 p.m. PT. A crowd of over 24,000 is expected for Saturday's cross-conference affair.

MATCHUP HISTORY: Saturday will mark the 12th all-time meeting between the 'Caps and D.C United. It is the first meeting since September 2023, when the sides played to a 2-2 draw at BC Place. Saturday will also mark Vancouver's fourth match against Eastern Conference opposition during the regular season this year.

WEEKLY STORYLINES

WHITE HOT IN SALT LAKE: At the top and looking to stay there. Vancouver Whitecaps FC extended their lead at the summit of the Western Conference last weekend with a comprehensive 3-0 away victory against Real Salt Lake, securing a fifth clean sheet in their last eight MLS matches. The win also marked the 30th time the 'Caps have scored three or more goals during head coach Jesper Sørensen's 89 games at the helm (33.7%), thanks to Thomas Müller's ninth goal of the season, Yadaly Diaby's first goal for the club, and Brian White's team-leading 17th goal across all competitions this season. White scored for a third consecutive MLS match, tying his career high from 2025 with his 16th MLS regular season goal of the season. The club’s MLS-era leading goalscorer now has 96 goals to his name and is just four away from becoming the first player to reach 100 goals since the club joined MLS.

CHASING HOME RECORDS: The 'Caps had have a full week of training to prepare for their clash with Eastern Conference side D.C. United at BC Place this Saturday. The match will mark the eighth time Vancouver hosts D.C. and the first meeting since September 2023 when the sides played to a 2-2 draw. In addition to cementing their spot at the top of the West, the 'Caps are approaching a number of records. The team is one win from matching their MLS record for home wins in a season, as well as six points from matching their MLS record for home points in a season. Vancouver is already on record pace in the regular season with their 15W-6L-4D record in 25 games, marking the quickest a VWFC team has reached 49 points in an MLS regular season. 25 games into the 2025 regular season, the 'Caps had a record of 13W-6L-6D for a total of 45 points.

INTERNATIONAL 'CAPS: The Blue and White will need to count on their depth on Saturday as seven players will be away on international duty representing their countries. Ralph Priso and Jeevan Badwal were called up to Canada for three matches against Chile, Peru, and the United States, while Édier Ocampo received his first call-up to Colombia for matches against Mexico, Paraguay, and Peru. Andrés Cubas continues to be a regular for Paraguay, as they take on Bolivia and Colombia. Fresh off his performance at the weekend, Yadaly Diaby is set to join up with Guinea for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Kenya. Lastly, BMO Academy products Rayan Elloumi and Mihail Gherasimencov will be away with Tunisia and Moldova, respectively. Assistant coach Michael D'Agostino has also been called up to Canada as a guest coach.

• Be careful of D.C. on the break
  D.C. United are dangerous on the break.
  They are missing Tai Baribo and Louis Munteanu, but having Jackson Hopkins up front and Kimito Nono joining the attack from right back can cause us problems.
  We must be organized when we're attacking.

• Be quick in possession
  D.C. United give teams a bit of time to play.
  Our quality up front and in midfield will give them problems.
  Our speed of play will hurt them, take advantage of this.

• Test our depth
  International call-ups give us the chance to test our depth of squad.
  Once again, our top players need to step up and build on last week's terrific performance.
