Vancouver Whitecaps FC are set to host their first-ever Cherry Blossom Match this Sunday, March 15 against Western Conference adversaries Minnesota United FC at BC Place. Over 22,000 tickets have already been sold for the match. Kickoff is bright and early at 1:30 p.m. PT, with public stadium gates opening at 12:30 p.m. PT.

  Sunday's match wil mark the 18th MLS meeting between the 'Caps and the Loons. It is the first of two meetings during the regular season between the two teams. Vancouver has posted a 3W-1L-2D record in their last six encounters with Minnesota.

WEEKLY STORYLINES

NO PITY IN PORTLAND: Brian White moved within two goal contributions of a historic milestone as Vancouver Whitecaps FC continued their perfect start to the 2026 MLS season with a convincing 4-1 win over Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers. White scored twice to reach 98 goal contributions for the club across all competitions (82 goals, 16 assists), leaving him two shy of becoming the first player in the club’s MLS era to reach 100. Tristan Blackmon and Sebastian Berhalter also scored in the victory, which marked the third straight match at Providence Park in which the ’Caps have scored four or more goals. White, Blackmon, Berhalter, along with head coach Jesper Sørensen, were all named to the MLS Team of the Matchday.

MIA SAN MIA: Following a midweek defeat to Seattle Sounders FC in the Round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup, the 'Caps are set to shift their sights toward an all-Western Conference clash at BC Place on Sunday against Minnesota United FC. Vancouver will look to continue their perfect 3W-0L-0D start to the regular season, while Minnesota looks to improve on their 1W-1L-1D record. The talking point for Sunday's match is the potential reunion of two former FC Bayern Munich teammates in Vancouver's Thomas Müller and Minnesota's James Rodríguez. If the pair take to the pitch at BC Place, it could mark the first time two FIFA World Cup™ Golden Boot winners face each other in MLS history, with Müller winning the award at the 2010 tournament in South Africa and Rodríguez accomplishing the feat four years later in Brazil.

JESPER AT THE HELM: In his second season in charge, head coach Jesper Sørensen has continued to build on the club’s success from last year. Since the Dane took over, the Blue and White have scored 114 goals across all competitions, recorded 21 clean sheets, and posted a 30W-11L-18D record. Vancouver also remains unbeaten in MLS play when scoring first under Sørensen (20W-0L-4D). With six of their next seven matches at BC Place, the ’Caps will look to continue their strong home form, as Sørensen has posted a 19W-4L-7D mark across all competitions at BC Place.

EARLY SEASON GROOVE: Several ’Caps players have found their stride in the opening weeks of the season. Brian White leads the team with three goals, Yohei Takaoka has recorded four clean sheets, and Sebastian Berhalter has four goal contributions across all competitions. In MLS play, Vancouver are tied for the league lead in goals scored (8), lead MLS in expected goals (7.40) and expected goal difference (5.90), rank second in touches in the opposition box (99), and have conceded the second-fewest expected goals (1.50). The ’Caps also rank fifth in average possession (57.9%). Individually, White is second in MLS in expected goals (3.00), Berhalter ranks second in chances created (10) and first in expected assists (1.70), while Andrés Cubas is second in tackles per 90 minutes (5.50).
