This coming Sunday, March 15, Vancouver Whitecaps FC host Minnesota United FC at BC Place. Kickoff time is 1:30 p.m. PT.
This marks the club's first ever Cherry Blossom Match. Cherry Blossoms have a rich history in Vancouver, dating back to the 1930s when the mayors of Kobe and Yokohama gifted 500 trees to honour Japanese-Canadian World War I veterans. Today, there are more than 40,000 cherry blossom trees in Vancouver, with spring signalling the age-old Japanese tradition of flower viewing known as hanami. The annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival takes place March 27 to April 17.

For the best stadium entry experience, Whitecaps FC and BC Place recommend fans do not bring a bag to the stadium. If you do:

- One small opaque bag, but it can’t be larger than 6.5”x 8.5”

- Exceptions for diaper bags and medically necessary items

Kid Captains
Whitecaps FC are honoured to have brothers Joshua and Caleb Nsumbu from BC Children's Hospital as Kid Captains for Sunday's match against Minnesota United FC.
Joshua and Caleb have spent much of their young lives at BC Children’s Hospital. Joshua’s journey began when he was just a year old, and months of unexplained fevers led to a diagnosis of chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), a rare immune system disorder. When Caleb was born, the family learned he had the same condition. As part of their life-saving medical plan, both boys have undergone bone marrow transplants made possible by their devoted uncle, who has travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo to be their donor. Today, Joshua and Caleb continue to receive care from their dedicated BC Children’s medical team. But these two mighty brothers don’t let their challenges stop them from living life to the fullest. Joshua enjoys playing soccer and performing with his school’s rock band, while Caleb loves practicing handstands, caring for his puppy, and playing adaptive soccer
