Whitecaps FC set for trip to Charleston

On Wednesday, February 13, Vancouver Whitecaps FC travel to Charleston, South Carolina, for a second preseason training trip.

During the 10-day camp, the ‘Caps will play a series of preseason matches against USL PRO side Charleston Battery (February 16) and NCAA DI team College of Charleston (February 17), as well as MLS Eastern Conference clubs Houston Dynamo (February 20) and Chicago Fire (February 23), before a trip to Cary, North Carolina, for a match against NASL side Carolina RailHawks (February 24).

Thirty-five players will be making the trip to Charleston, including Whitecaps FC U-18 players Sam Adekugbe and Sean Melvin. Joining the team in Charleston will be Harvard University striker Brian Rogers and Duquesne University defender Adam Clement, who were selected by the ‘Caps in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft. Trialists Andrés Fresenga, Jacob Lensky, and Jaime Peters will not make the trip and are no longer with the team.

On February 25, the team returns to Vancouver for the final week of preseason training at their new home, the National Soccer Development Centre at the University of British Columbia.

The updated 2013 preseason roster includes 37 players, including 26 players under contract, nine trialists, two VWFC Residency players. 34 players will make the trip to Charleston.
