Emma Fletcher

Whitecaps FC Girls Elite midfielder called up to Canada U-20 national team camp

The Canadian Soccer Association announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite midfielder Emma Fletcher has been called up to Canada's women's U-20 national team team for a U-17 to U-19 Women’s National Excel camp to take place from March 16 to 25 in Portland, Oregon. Also called up are Whitecaps FC Girls Elite graduates Lindsay Johansen and Elise Wyatt.

Fletcher goes into camp with Canada's U-20 team after previously representing New Zealand at the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan. The Victoria, BC native earns her call-up on the heels of scoring the winning goal in the Girls Elite squad's 2-0 win over the Peninsula Co-op Highlanders to earn a spot in the Metro Women's Soccer League (MWSL) Cup final.

“This is an important camp as it represents the beginning of a new cycle for the U-20 group of players,” said Andrew Olivieri, head coach for Canada’s women’s U-20 team and for the upcoming Women's National Excel camp. “Our on-field work towards the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014 starts right here.”

The camp featuring players from the 1994-1996 age group will feature a friendly match against the University of Portland on Friday March 22.
