VANCOUVER, BC – Major League Soccer announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Sebastian Berhalter has been named to the MLS Team of Matchday 25 after his performance in the 'Caps dominant 3-0 road win over Houston Dynamo FC at Shell Energy Stadium.
It was a huge win for the 'Caps, pulling back within one point of San Diego FC for top spot in the MLS Western Conference. Whitecaps FC will face San Diego FC in massive match on Saturday at Snapdragon Stadium (7:30 p.m. PT, live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, 101.1 HD3 and CKNW.com).
Berhalter earns his second selection of the season (Matchday 4), scoring his fifth goal in all competitions, and 11th goal contribution. The honour comes one week before Berhalter suits up for his first MLS All-Star match alongside teammates Yohei Takaoka, Tristan Blackmon, and Brian White. Takaoka and Berhalter will also take part in the All-Star Skills Challenge.
In total, nine different Whitecaps FC members have been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season. Along with Berhalter, head coach Jesper Sørensen (Matchday 4, Matchday 8), defenders Tristan Blackmon, (Matchday 4, Matchday 7, Matchday 12), Édier Ocampo (Matchday 9) and MathÃas Laborda (Matchday 3), midfielder Pedro Vite (Matchday 1, Matchday 10), as well as forwards Jayden Nelson (Matchday 1), Emmanuel Sabbi (Matchday 8, Matchday 21) and Brian White (Matchday 2, Matchday 8, Matchday 12, Matchday 15).
