KAMLOOPS, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC BMO Academy U-19 boys recorded a 1-1 draw against League1 BC side Rivers FC at Hillside Stadium this Sunday afternoon.

Rivers FC started the first half quickly by scoring the opening goal in the second minute of the match, as Whitecaps FC BMO Academy alum Daniel Sagno’s strike found the back of the net making it 1-0.

The young ‘Caps looked to build forward on a counter attack organized by Gurman Sangha, who set up forward Chris Album, his chance was just sent wide of the net in the 10th minute of the match.

Moments later, Rivers FC goalkeeper Jackson Gardner was shown a red card, meaning his squad continued playing the match down to 10 men.

The Blue & White were awarded a free kick following the foul in the 15th minute of the match, as midfielder Tomás Peña’s strong strike curled into the net, levelling the game one apiece.

As the second half began, Sangha’s short pass found Kamloops native Alesandro Comita in the final third, his shot then went wide in the 52nd minute of the match.

Following a cut inside move from Rivers FC substitute Dylan Hooper, his strike inside the area was held off by ‘Caps goalkeeper Marshall Herald in the 72nd minute.

With the match progressing and both sides hunting for a winner in the dying stages of the match, Album had an opportunity on the left flank of the field as his strike passed right outside of the netting in the 90th minute.

The home side then had a chance of their own, as Hooper’s shot saw Herald making a strong save as the final whistle blew.
