WEEKLY STORYLINES

FIRST OF SEVEN: Vancouver Whitecaps FC play their first of seven consecutive away matches on Saturday, August 26 as they face Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers at Providence Park. The away stretch, which will see the 'Caps play seven matches in 33 days, is the longest in the club's MLS era, having previously played five consecutive away matches in 2012 and 2015. With trips to Portland, Chicago, New York, Toronto, Houston, Salt Lake City, and Denver, the 'Caps will cover approximately 27,000 kilometres in that span.**

CASCADIA RIVALRY:* Saturday's match will mark the third and final meeting of the season between Vancouver and Portland. The last encounter saw Portland take a 3-1 victory at Providence Park back in May, while the Blue and White claimed a 1-0 win in April thanks to a Brian White game winner. Heading into the match, the 'Caps sit second in the Cascadia Cup standings with six points, a single point behind the Timbers. A win on Saturday will see them jump to first in the Cascadia Cup standings and could vault themselves up to sixth in the Western Conference playoff race depending on other results.*

SOLID DEBUTS:** New wingbacks Richie Laryea and Sam Adekugbe each split 45 minutes on Sunday against San Jose Earthquakes, as they continue to build their fitness levels. As advertised, Laryea repeatedly took on defenders and drove to the box, playing several cutback passes, and earning a few solid scoring opportunities himself. On defence, Laryea won all three of his tackles, as well as three of his four duels. Adekugbe, an elite crosser, played numerous progressive balls forward and behind the lines, as well as crosses into the box from out wide. Adekugbe also hit the woodwork on his free kick attempt in the 81st minute, won both of his aerial duels and made two interceptions.
