WEEKLY STORYLINES
UP THE 'CAPS: There's been plenty of memorable moments during the first half of the 2025 season for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and the team provided another one in the shape of a 3-0 victory over Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC at BC Place this past weekend. With nine players away on international duty, the team stepped up to deliver a crucial three points thanks to a first MLS goal for Homegrown Jeevan Badwal, a long-range blast from Daniel RÃos, and Damir Kreilach's 50th MLS regular season goal. The win saw the 'Caps retake the lead at the top of the MLS Supporters' Shield standings with 35 points (with a game in hand) and an incredible 2.19 points per game, while improving a club-record unbeaten run in MLS play to 11 games. Through 16 matches, it's also the quickest Vancouver has reached double-digit league wins in their MLS era.
BATTLE OF THE LEAGUE'S BEST: The 'Caps will now turn their focus towards a tasty cross-conference match-up against one of the league's best in Columbus Crew. After losing only one of their first 14 regular season matches this year, the Crew have two losses in their last three, with their previous win coming on May 3. However, make no mistake, Columbus have been one of the league's model franchises in recent years after winning MLS Cup in 2023 as well as Leagues Cup 2024, all while playing an entertaining brand of football. The 'Caps will look to show they can dance with the league's best on Saturday. In fact, dating back to 2012, the Blue and White have posted a 5W-1L-3D record in their last nine meetings with the Crew.
TRISTANOVIĆ AND VESELINOVIĆ: The win against Seattle saw a pair of 'Caps come ever closer to a special milestone. The match marked the 99th time that Tristan Blackmon and Ranko Veselinović have started together across all competitions for Whitecaps FC. Since Blackmon arrived to the club in 2022, the pair have become close friends off the pitch and have been a key part of the 'Caps success in recent years, which includes three consecutive TELUS Canadian Championship triumphs, two trips to the MLS Cup Playoffs, and a run to the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup final. Oddly enough, the pair's first start together was actually in Columbus back in February 2022.
