WEEKLY STORYLINES

BAY BOUND: For the first time this season, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are set to hit the road as they face Western Conference rivals San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday in their first away match of the regular season. The Blue and White opened up their 2024 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Charlotte FC last Saturday in front of a record-breaking home opener crowd of 29,624. Ryan Raposo scored the first goal of the season, mere days before his 25th birthday.

WE MEET AGAIN: Saturday's match will mark the second consecutive season the 'Caps travel to the Bay Area for their first road match of the year, with San Jose capturing a 2-1 victory in 2023. The two sides split the spoils in their previous meeting two weeks ago, playing to a 1-1 draw during the 'Caps preseason camp in Indio, California.

FIFTY FIFTY: Both Vancouver and San Jose are celebrating their 50th anniversary seasons. The history between the clubs dates back to May 5, 1974, the first game for both teams in the old North American Soccer League. Following a 1-1 draw in regulation, San Jose won the inaugural match 2-1 following a 7-6 shootout win at Empire Stadium, Vancouver, BC. All-time, Vancouver holds a 22W-20L-12D record against San Jose.
