WEEKLY STORYLINES

INTO EL VOLCÁN: Vancouver Whitecaps FC continue their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup campaign as they face Tigres UANL in the second leg of Round One. The Blue and White come into the match having drawn 1-1 against the Liga MX side in the first leg at Starlight Stadium in Langford, BC, with Damir Kreilach scoring his first goal for the club. Wednesday's match will mark the 'Caps second trip to Estadio Universitario, having played the first leg of their Concacaf Champions League semifinals in 2017. The stadium is also known as 'El Volcán' or 'The Volcano'.

RESULTS BREAKDOWN: The 'Caps carry a 1-1 draw heading into the second leg, meaning they'll need to score on Wednesday if they are to progress to the Round of 16 due to Tigres' advantage on away goals. If Vancouver scores twice during the match, Tigres will have to score three to move on, while a 1-1 scoreline will see the teams go to extra time and potentially a penalty shootout if the sides remain tied.

PRESEASON CONTINUES: Following Wednesday's match, the 'Caps will continue their preparations for the MLS season ahead, as they'll head to Indio, California on Thursday for a one-week preseason camp. The trip will mark the second consecutive year the team holds a camp in Coachella Valley. The team will return to Vancouver on February 21, with eyes towards their MLS regular season opener against Eastern Conference side Charlotte FC on March 2 at BC Place.
