VANCOUVER, BC – Eyes on the summit. After slaying the LAFC dragon in the Western Conference Semifinals, Vancouver Whitecaps FC (MLS RS 18W-7L-9D, MLS PO 1W-0L-2D) are set to compete in the MLS Cup Playoffs Western Conference Final for the first time, with an MLS Cup berth on the line. Standing in the 'Caps way is expansion side San Diego FC (MLS RS 19W-9L-6D, MLS PO 3W-0L-1D), who defeated Minnesota United in the Conference Semifinals and got past Portland Timbers in the Round One, Best-of-3 Series. WEEKLY STORYLINES

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: Last Saturday, Vancouver Whitecaps FC delivered what many have described as an instant MLS Cup Playoffs classic, as they defeated rivals LAFC against all the odds in the Western Conference Semifinals in front of a MLS era-record crowd at BC Place. After taking a 2-0 advantage, the 'Caps were forced to extra time with LAFC equalizing late and a second yellow card being shown to Tristan Blackmon. Vancouver then went down to nine men with Belal Halbouni exiting the match, but no matter. The team battled through thick and thin to take the match to a shootout. Up stepped Mathías Laborda, scorer of the second goal of the night, to make history and book the 'Caps a spot in their first-ever Western Conference Final.

SUMMIT IN SIGHT: The 'Caps will now compete in the Western Conference Final, with a first-ever MLS Cup berth on the line. Standing in the way is expansion side San Diego FC, who defeated Minnesota United FC by a score of 1-0 in the Conference Semifinals. The match will take place at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California this Saturday, November 29 and will mark the 'Caps second visit to the Chrome and Azul, having drawn 1-1 in the previous encounter between the two teams back in July. Vancouver has had plenty of success on the road this season, finishing the regular season tied for fourth in MLS for the most road points this season with 29 (8W-4L-5D) and scoring 37 goals across all competitions away from home. In addition, the team is unbeaten in their last five road matches.

EYES ON THE EAST: While Vancouver and San Diego battle for best in the West, Inter Miami CF will host New York City FC in the Eastern Conference Final, also on Saturday, November 29. Kick from Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is set for 3 p.m. PT. Miami holds home-field advantage for the remainder of their playoffs, meaning a victory over New York City would send MLS Cup to South Florida on Saturday, December 6. If Vancouver advances and New York City wins at Miami, the ‘Caps would host MLS Cup.
