WEEKLY STORYLINES

SUNDAY NIGHT SOCCER: A chance at revenge. Vancouver Whitecaps FC continue to lead the MLS Supporters' Shield standings with a club-record 8W-1L-2D record (26 points) through 11 matches to begin the regular season. The 'Caps, who find themselves with a seven-point cushion on second-placed Minnesota United FC in the West, are set to host Sunday Night Soccer presented by Continental Tire on Apple TV at BC Place for the first time as they face long-time rivals LAFC. The match will mark the first meeting between the two sides since squaring off in the Round One Best-of-3 series of the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs and the 13th meeting across all competitions since April 2023. It's sure to be one of the most highly-contested matches of the regular season so far.

ALL EYES ON US: It's been record after record to begin the Jesper SĆørensen era in Vancouver, all while managing fixture congestion, extended travel, and injuries. Despite that, the 'Caps have continued to turn the page and produce results. The team is currently riding a 10-match club-record unbeaten run across all competitions (6W-0L-4D), scoring a whopping 20 goals and keeping four clean sheets in that span. It was a record that hadn't been stifled since 2014, when the 'Caps went on an eight-match unbeaten run. In addition, last weekend's 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake marked the first time the 'Caps have won four consecutive matches across all competitions since March-April 2015. Lastly, on Monday, the Blue and White rose to number two in the Concacaf Club Ranking Index, after sitting 28th in the rankings last December heading into the Concacaf Champions Cup draw.

TEAM SCORING: The 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake last weekend saw Vancouver continue to find offensive production from across the pitch. Jayden Nelson found the back of the net for the second time this season and reached eight goal contributions in all competitions, while MLS Team of the Matchday recipient Tristan Blackmon thumped home his third goal across all competitions. Meanwhile, Pedro Vite reached 10 goal contributions in all competitions, Sebastian Berhalter recorded his sixth goal contribution in his last four appearances, and Ralph Priso notched his second assist of the season. The 'Caps now have 19 players on the roster who have contributed a goal or an assist this year, just one shy of the total they had during the entirety of 2024.
