WEEKLY STORYLINES

FOUR-PEAT COMPLETE: Made it a legacy. On Wednesday, Vancouver Whitecaps FC lifted their fourth consecutive Voyageurs Cup and fifth overall thanks to a 4-2 win over Vancouver FC of Langley in the 2025 TELUS Canadian Championship Final at BC Place. The 'Caps put on a show, with Ali Ahmed picking up the George Gross Memorial trophy thanks to a brace in the final, Thomas Müller bagged his 300th goal for club and country en route to winning the 35th title of his illustrious career, and Jayden Nelson winning the Best Young Canadian Player award after tallying a goal and three assists in the tournament. The night was capped off in memorable fashion, as Ryan Gauld made his long-awaited return from injury and scored minutes after coming into the match. Vancouver has now booked their spot in the 2026 Conacaf Champions Cup, where they'll look to avenge their run to the final earlier this year.

FINISHING STRONG: With Wednesday’s final wrapped up, the focus shifts towards finishing the MLS regular season on a strong note ahead of the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs, as the ‘Caps host San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday at BC Place in a key Western Conference affair. Vancouver heads into Matchday 39 level on 57 points at the top of the West with San Diego FC, holding a game in hand on the expansion side as well as several other teams in the MLS Supporters’ Shield race. A win at the weekend would go a long way in keeping the ‘Caps Shield dreams alive. The team will wrap up the regular season with a road visit to Orlando City SC on October 11 and a Decision Day clash against FC Dallas at BC Place on October 18.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Three ‘Caps continued to climb up the record charts this week in the form of Brian White, Ryan Gauld, and Sebastian Berhalter. White and Berhalter, who have both enjoyed career-years and represented their country this season, came up with a pair of key moments to secure the ‘Caps a record-eighth Cascadia Cup and a point against Seattle Sounders FC. White scored his 22nd goal across all competitions, which now means he is one away from equalling Jason Jordan for third all-time in goals scored and two away from equalling John Catliff for second. Meanwhile, Berhalter assisted Mathías Laborda’s equalizer to bring him to 25 assists for the club across all competitions. He is now one away from tying Pedro Morales for the second-most assists in the club’s MLS era. As for Gauld, he's now two goal contributions away from reaching 100 across all competitions for the club.
