WEEKLY STORYLINES

DECISION DAY: Vancouver Whitecaps FC have already clinched their spot in the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs, but they'll be looking to end the regular season on a high on Saturday as they host defending MLS Cup champions Los Angeles FC in a Decision Day clash at BC Place. This weekend's match will mark the fourth meeting across all competitions this season and the second in MLS play, with the 'Caps claiming a thrilling 3-2 victory at BMO Stadium back in June. Vancouver fans will recognize a pair of familiar faces on LAFC in goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau and former head coach Marc Dos Santos.

EYES ON TOP FOUR: After claiming a point away from home at Seattle Sounders FC on October 7, the Blue and White secured a spot in the Round One Best-of-3 playoff series, avoiding the wild card match and clinching the club's first home playoff match since 2017. To secure home field advantage in the first round, the 'Caps will need to claim all three points on Decision Day and have two of the following results go their way: a Houston Dynamo FC loss/draw at Portland Timbers, a Real Salt Lake loss/draw at Colorado Rapids, or a Seattle Sounders FC loss at St. Louis CITY SC.

HISTORIC GOALS: It's been goals on goals on goals for the 'Caps in 2023, with the team scoring four or more goals five times this season, including the club's first MLS six-goal victory against Houston Dynamo FC by a score of 6-2 at the end of May. Vancouver's goalscoring prowess has brought them on the brink of history, as they've tied their MLS record for goals in a regular season with 54. The total is the second-best in the Western Conference. Leading the way has been leading goalscorer Brian White with 15 MLS goals and Landon Donovan MLS MVP candidate Ryan Gauld with 23 goal contributions (11 goals, 12 assists) in regular season action this year. Across all competitions, the 'Caps have scored 75 goals, which is a club-record in their MLS era.
