MATCHUP HISTORY: Sunday will mark the 11th MLS meeting between the 'Caps and Austin FC. It is also the first of two meetings in the regular season between the two teams this year. Vancouver holds a 4W-0L-1D home record over Austin, outscoring the side 11-3.
WEEKLY STORYLINES
CONQUERED THE GALAXY, TAME THE TEXANS: Vancouver Whitecaps FC got back on track this week with a comfortable 3-0 victory over LA Galaxy in midweek. Brian White scored his 15th goal across all competitions, Ryan Gauld scored his 50th goal for the club to become the first player in the club's MLS era to record 50+ goals and 50+ assists, while Bruno Caicedo added a late insurance marker from the penalty spot. Vancouver will now shift their focus torwards Austin FC this Sunday, which also marks Thomas Müller's birthday, a year on from his famous hat trick performance against Philadelphia Union in a 7-0 win. The 'Caps hold a 6W-1L-3D record in MLS play over the Verde and Black.
INTO THE FALL: The 'Caps have already played three of their seven matches in September and by the end of the week, they'll have played the majority of those games. Their remaining three matches this month see Vancouver head east for the decisive second leg of the TELUS Canadian Championship semifinals against CF Montréal on September 16. As part of the same trip, the 'Caps will then fly back west for a visit to Real Salt Lake on September 19, before wrapping up the month with a home clash against D.C. United on September 26. With only 11 matches to go in the regular season, every point counts as the calendar starts to turn to fall and into the MLS Cup Playoffs.
TEAM BONDING: Similar to 2025, the 'Caps have been sharing the load in front of goal this season. Entering this week's action, 16 different players have found the back of the net across all competitions, while 18 different players have registered an assist. Leading the way in the goals department is Brian White (15), followed by Thomas Müller (8) and Emmanuel Sabbi (5). The trio were also Vancouver’s top three scorers last year, with White finishing with 24 goals, while Müller and Sabbi both tallied nine. In total, they combined for 53 goal contributions across all competitions in 2025, and they enter this week with 42 goal contributions on the year. On the assists front, Colombian right back Édier Ocampo leads the way with eight helpers, while Müller is closing in with seven assists.
