WEEKLY STORYLINES

PEAK POSITION: Vancouver Whitecaps FC are on the brink of a historic milestone as they head into their Decision Day showdown against FC Dallas on Saturday, October 18. A win or draw will secure the club’s first-ever first-place finish in the MLS Western Conference, ensuring that the road to the MLS Cup in the West runs through BC Place. The 'Caps kept their momentum rolling last Saturday with a dramatic 2-1 away win over Orlando City SC, sparked by some late magic from Thomas Müller. The result lifted Vancouver to 63 points, pushing them past San Diego FC and extending their club-record MLS points total. Whitecaps FC are now unbeaten in 11 straight across all competitions (7W-0L-4D), scoring 30 goals to reach a club-record 93 goals on the year, surpassing the 91 set in 1988.

MÜLLER MANIA: Since arriving in Vancouver, Thomas Müller has made an instant impact both on and off the pitch. The German legend has tallied seven goals, including three game-winners, and four assists in just seven appearances (5W-0L-2D) across all competitions. Along the way, Müller scored his 300th career goal for club and country, recorded his sixth career hat trick, and became the most decorated German player of all time after winning his 35th career trophy with the 'Caps fourth straight Voyageurs Cup title in the TELUS Canadian Championship.

SQUAD UP: Already setting multiple club records this season, the 'Caps have a chance to make even more history on Decision Day. Jesper Sørensen’s side has featured 23 different goalscorers across all competitions and 20 in league play alone, tying the single-season MLS record set by St. Louis CITY SC last year. With a +29 goal differential, Vancouver has matched the 2012 San Jose Earthquakes for the ninth-best mark in a single season, just one behind the 2024 Inter Miami CF and 2017 Atlanta United. On Saturday, the 'Caps will also aim for their 11th regular season win at BC Place, which would surpass their 2022 total of 10 home victories (10W-4L-3D).
