VANCOUVER, BC – Major League Soccer announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Thomas Müller has been named to MLS' Team of Matchday for Matchday 30 after scoring his first goal for the club and the gamewinner in a thrilling 3-2 victory over St. Louis CITY SC in front of a sold-out crowd at BC Place. The victory saw the 'Caps improve their regular season record to 14W-6L-7D (49 points), meaning they're now a win away from clinching their spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs for a third consecutive season. Müller's goal was also the latest goal in Whitecaps FC's MLS era at 90'+14, surpassing the previous record held by Kei Kamara from his late penalty kick at FC Dallas in 2018.
In addition to his goal, the Raumdeuter tallied one chance created, three shots, three sucessful duels, seven recoveries, and eight passes into the final third, playing the full 90 minutes.
This marks Müller's first-ever selection to the MLS Team of the Matchday, becoming the 11th member of Whitecaps FC to earn a selection this season. Head coach Jesper Sørensen (Matchday 4, Matchday 8), defenders Tristan Blackmon (Matchday 4, Matchday 7, Matchday 12). Mathías Laborda (Matchday 3, Matchday 27) and Édier Ocampo (Matchday 9), midfielders Sebastian Berhalter (Matchday 4, Matchday 25), J.C. Ngando (Matchday 27), and Pedro Vite (Matchday 1, Matchday 10), as well as forwards Jayden Nelson (Matchday 1), Emmanuel Sabbi (Matchday 8, Matchday 21) and Brian White (Matchday 2, Matchday 8, Matchday 12, Matchday 15) have all received recognition for their performances thus far.
