VANCOUVER, BC – Major League Soccer announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender Édier Ocampo has been named to the MLS' Team of the Matchday for Matchday 35 following his performance in the Blue and White's 2-0 road victory over Sporting Kansas City. With the win, the 'Caps set a new club record of 55 points in an MLS regular season, eclipsing the previous record of 53 set in 2015, and tied their club record of 16 wins in an MLS season from 2015. In addition, the 'Caps set a new club record of 56 goals scored in an MLS regular season, breaking the previous high from 2023, while also setting an MLS era record of 80 goals across all competitions, surpassing the 78 from 2023.
Ocampo scored his third goal of the season in the win, finding the back of the net in the second minute off of a tidy finish inside the box. It was the 'Caps fastest goal of the year thus far, beating out Sam Adekugbe's third minute strike against LA Galaxy on March 2. The Colombian also recorded eight recoveries, six successful duels won, three successful tackles won, two interceptions, one block, and 84% passing accuracy in what was his 32nd start across all competitions. This marks Ocampo's second Team of the Matchday selection this season (Matchday 9).
