VANCOUVER, BC – Major League Soccer announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC attacking midfielder Thomas Müller has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 20 following his performance in the club's epic 2-0 away victory against Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC. The win, which also featured Homegrown forward Rayan Elloumi getting on the scoresheet, saw the 'Caps secure a record ninth Cascadia Cup while vaulting themselves up to the summit of the Western Conference in first place with 37 points.
The result sets up an exciting tilt for the 'Caps '80s Match, presented by Rio Mare, this Wednesday, August 19 at BC Place against Houston Dynamo FC, who sit second in the West heading into Matchday 21 action. Müller recorded his seventh goal across all competitions, expertly slotting home an indirect free kick inside the Sounders box to secure the three points for the 'Caps. The Raumdeuter also had the joint-most touches in the opposition box with six, took the most shots in the match with five, and completed the joint-most dribbles with two. He also tallied eight successful duels won. This marks Müller's fourth selection to the Team of the Matchday this season (Matchday 2, Matchday 15, Matchday 19).
